What kind of audio does Onkyo tx-sr309 have?

The TX-SR309 looks very similar to the TX-NR509, only differing in size. It sports a nice brushed aluminum finish and retains the black fascia similar to previous Onkyo models.
Why is the sound not working on my HDMI TV?
HDMI communicates with all of the HDMI-connected devices and requires authentication (a.k.a. handshake) from each device. Since the DVI jack on the TV is not HDMI, authentication cannot occur and may cause the A/V receiver to not produce any audio. How to get no sound from HDMI to TV?
Look on pg 36 of your manual. If you don’t have one you can download it here. 1. Hit Receiver button on the remote 4. Change the setting to THRU, its probably on AMP right now. W hen THRU is selected no sound is output by the receiver. Sound will be output to the TV.
