The ATV4/4K design replaced the optical out with an HDMI port. You will need to connect your ATV4/4K to your Sound Receiver via an HDMI cable. And then connect an HDMI Cable from your surround sound receiver to your TV. For example, my Apple TV is connected to my Onkyo Receiver via HDMI.

Why is my Apple TV 4K not working?
I found the solution after digging deep into the Denon Setup menus and the LG OLED menus. First I enabled HDMI Ultra HD Deep Color on one of the LG HDMI inputs. That made the Apple TV 4k work through the Denon A/V receiver, but consequently caused all the other sources hooked up to the receiver not to work.
